Sebastián

Sebastián is from Trujillo, a city in the northern part of Peru. His mother, Alicia, is a single parent who receives help raising her only child from her mother and sister. Sebastián’s father has chosen not to be a part of their lives.

Alicia was two months pregnant when she was robbed and forcefully thrown to the ground. She endured a painful pregnancy and subsequent cesarean section.

Alicia was shocked and upset when she first saw her son due to his facial deformity. Her physician refused to perform the necessary corrective surgery that she so desperately wanted for her child.

Alicia saw a television commercial advertising “free operations and care by the Global Smile Foundation,” on their mission to Trujillo. She believes that this surgery will allow her son to live a normal life without people always staring. She hopes that Sebastián’s procedure will go smoothly and allow him to experience a livelihood that otherwise would not have been possible.
